Service helps oncology pharmacies streamline benefits investigation, prior authorization and financial assistance support for practices with Medically Integrated Dispensing
IRVING, Texas, March 18, 2021 — McKesson, a global leader in healthcare dedicated to supporting the full continuum of care, announced the launch of ScriptPAS™, a pharmacy management solution for oncology practices powered by Biologics by McKesson specialty pharmacy. ScriptPAS is a fee-for-service offering designed to help Medically Integrated Dispensing (MID)-equipped practices provide quicker access to care by reducing barriers that delay treatment. This is accomplished by providing support with benefits investigation, prior authorization and financial assistance. ScriptPAS services also help practices mitigate temporary staffing and overflow challenges, an important benefit as practices deal with the impacts of COVID-19 and the growth of oral oncolytics on their operations.
“ScriptPAS is a unique and innovative collaboration between two best-in-class businesses within McKesson – Biologics and Provider Solutions – which enable MID-equipped practices to provide better patient care through increased speed to therapy,” said Mark Alwardt, vice president, Medically Integrated Dispensing, McKesson. “The intricate prior authorization process, time-to-fill and lack of financial assistance are primary reasons patients skip or delay therapies. ScriptPAS leverages the experience and scale of McKesson to assist with the front-end prescription process to support the practice’s mission of providing timely, optimal patient care.”
ScriptPAS quickly and efficiently moves the prescription through the complex prior authorization process, reviews financial data and copay assistance details and then returns the prescription to the pharmacy/MID for fill once the review is completed. The program is a flexible service that can support either new or existing MID pharmacies and dispensaries and collaborates with current practice staff to reduce operational challenges.
“McKesson is strongly committed to supporting independent, community-based oncology practices by helping them successfully navigate today’s challenging healthcare landscape, especially as COVID-19 impacts their operations,” said Brandon Tom, vice president and general manager, Biologics. “I’m excited that the advanced patient assistance capabilities of Biologics as well as its 27 years of experience in supporting patient access to oral oncology therapies will benefit those practices leveraging ScriptPAS and their patients. We always aim to create a differentiated partnership with oncologists, so they can focus on operating more efficiently while driving high-quality, patient-centered care.”
“Oncology patients are often very distressed, especially those who are newly diagnosed and anxious for treatment to begin,” noted Shereen Stutz, senior director, Pharmacy Programs, McKesson. “ScriptPAS helps practices provide access to therapies as soon as possible, helping to ease patient anxiety while supporting the provider’s desire to offer the best possible patient experience.”
