As a company who lives its purpose of Advancing Health Outcomes for All®, we have a long history of service. We enable our team members to create positive change, both in their communities and for the causes they’re passionate about. Our goal is to foster an atmosphere where everyone can contribute meaningfully, and we take great pride in the kindness and active involvement shown by our employees.
This year, our employees demonstrated this level of care by supporting their favorite causes, assembling care packages, and donating to local charities. Learn more about some of the ways our employees gave back to their communities below.
Community Impact Days
Every year, our employees participate in our largest company-wide volunteer event called Community Impact Days. In our 26th consecutive year, our employees celebrated with the theme, “Empowering Health and Wellness in our Community.”
During the 2024 event, thousands of employees participated in various impact projects across their communities. For example, employees in our distribution centers assembled more than 15,000 care kits, which were distributed to more than 90 organizations. Additionally, many office employees volunteered at organizations such as food banks, and work-from-home employees hosted virtual food drives.
Care Kits for the Ronald McDonald House
Over the summer, the McKesson Medical-Surgical team assembled care kits for the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in Richmond, Va. With a deep understanding of the challenges faced by families during difficult times, the team was motivated to provide comfort and support through these kits. The team completed 140 kits that included items like pads, crayons, headphones, coloring books and more. Each kit was carefully crafted with the intention of bringing moments of joy and relief to children and teens with cancer, including babies in the NICU. In addition, the team earned a volunteering grant for RMH from the McKesson Foundation, a testament to their unwavering dedication and the impact of their compassionate efforts. This initiative not only strengthened the bonds within the team, but also reinforced their commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

“Our team really enjoyed supporting this worthwhile cause, especially since during the process we learned that one of our own teammates personally benefited from RMH services,” says Rick Taylor, VP of Category Management, Med-Surg & Equipment. “We look forward to doing of projects like this next year.”
Addressing Food Insecurity
This past spring, 11 members of our Corporate Strategy and Business Development team contributed to their community by sorting food at Crossroads Community Services in Dallas. Their efforts helped ensure that local families received essential food supplies, making a tangible impact on the lives of many. And during the fall, more than 50 employees participated in volunteering efforts at the Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville as part of our Annual Forum program. This initiative not only highlighted the power of collective action, but also underscored McKesson’s ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity in the regions we serve.
Cleaning up the Community in Virginia
This past year, the Extended Care (EC) Inside Sales Team helped to protect our planet by volunteering with Keep Virginia Cozy. By dedicating their time and energy to this cause, they not only helped contribute to a cleaner environment, but also inspired others to take action in their own communities. Tom Whalen, director of EC Inside Sales, shared that this year, the team collected 2,603 pounds of garbage under the James River Bridge in Newport News, Va. in one afternoon. The enthusiasm and commitment displayed by the team exemplified their passion for environmental stewardship and community engagement. This brings their four-year total to 3,365 pounds – more than one ton.

“It was inspiring to see the team come together, not only to support our local community, but to make a real, tangible difference in protecting our environment,” Whalen says.
We appreciate our employees’ dedication to our purpose. As we look ahead, we are excited to continue building on this legacy of giving back, inspiring even greater contributions, and fostering a culture of compassion and unity within our communities.
