What actions has McKesson-Medical Surgical taken?

We have stopped shipping the products specified in FDA’s Warning Letters issued on March 18, 2024 and July 18, 2024. McKesson Medical-Surgical continues to engage with Cardinal Health regarding the Warning Letter it received on April 24, 2024 to determine if any additional action is required.

We continue to work with our suppliers to help ensure that all necessary actions are taken with respect to the Warning Letters, Import Alerts and related product holds and recalls. This includes both privately labeled McKesson Brands and national brand products. We are also continuing to transition away from plastic syringes manufactured by the China-based suppliers noted in FDA’s updated Safety Communication.

We encourage you to read the information and resources available on this site and continue to monitor for updates.

Have any manufacturers announced a recall?

Yes.  As part of its evaluation of quality and performance issues related to plastic syringes made in China, FDA has announced a number of recalls. We continue to work with our suppliers to ensure that all necessary actions are taken with respect to product recalls and further FDA communications. Please see the Supplier Actions [link to Supplier Actions] tab and the FDA’s website at www.fda.gov for more information.

What alternate products are available?

We source products from a variety of suppliers and have alternate products available for ordering. McKesson Medical-Surgical customers can view alternate products in your SupplyManager account or can contact us at MMSSyringe@McKesson.com for further assistance.

Where can customers report concerns to the FDA?

Customers are encouraged to report product problems to FDA through the FDA MedWatch Voluntary Reporting Form: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/index.cfm?action=reporting.home.

If you are experiencing supply issues for syringes, or other devices, you may contact the FDA about a medical device supply chain issue at https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/medical-device-supply-chain-and-shortages/notify-fda-about-medical-device-supply-issue. Reporting supply chain issues to the FDA helps inform actions to prevent shortages and protect patient health.
